A POPULAR live music venue in Newquay town centre is set to close.
Whiskers in Gover Lane is closing its doors “for good” on Saturday, August 31.
Owners Nicole and Jon Grant have decided to sell their lease due to balancing the demands of running the business and raising two young children. The couple previously put the business on the market but decided to continue up until now.
Whiskers opened its doors in 2014 as an organic wine and tapas bar. Over the years, it has evolved into a vibrant community space, adapting to the changing tastes and needs of its patrons.
The venue, which boats a LED light up dance floor, has played host to numerous top acts including Natty, Newton Faulkner, The Rat Pack and Road Bloc's first ever gig.
Whiskers has also been a big supporter of grass roots bands throughout the years such as The Big Sets and Town of Cats as well as staging a popular open mic night.
Nicole and Jon said: “It is with mixed emotions that we announce Whiskers will be closing its doors for good on August 31.
“We have said this before but this time it’s a definite. Over the past 10 years, we have cherished every moment with our amazing community, but as we've previously shared, balancing the demands of the business with raising our two young children has proven to be too challenging.
“Despite our efforts to adapt and think creatively, we have made the difficult decision to step back from owning our own business. The bar is up for sale at a reduced price through David Ball Agencies.
“We are deeply grateful for everyone’s unwavering support, friendship, and all the wonderful memories we've created together.
“Please support us during our final few weeks. If you are one of our original customers that can no longer stay out late then please come early.
“If you’re young and full of beans then stay all night. Your support during this time will make a huge difference. “Stay tuned for the announcement of our final night performance on August 31. It's going to be a night not to be missed.”
