THE owner of a Newquay Chinese takeaway has made a kind gesture to thank the community for the support her family has received since the death of her husband.

Jess Wong, the runs the Orient in Station Approach, is offering free food over the summer holidays to children who rely on school meals.

Niko, who was also the head chef, always liked to help the community, so Jess has decided to offer free food for children who rely on school meals in his honour.

The Orient has thrived under Niko’s leadership through his dedication and hard work since he established the business 15 years ago with Jess.

The takeaway shut temporarily following Niko’s death but soon re-opened as Jess is determined to carry on his legacy.

Jess said: “We want to thank the community for being there for us during the toughest few weeks of our lives. We want to be there for our community too whenever they need us.

“My late husband Niko always loved helping others in the community wherever he could. We wish to continue his legacy of serving the community.

“Summer school holidays have now started, and we know some families rely on school meals.

“During this time, they may be struggling to feed their little ones. We would like to let them know that we are here to help.

“We are happy to offer free kids' meals for families that need them, as long as they can collect the meal anytime between 5pm and 6pm from our shop.

“Just drop me a message on the day you need the meals by 3.30pm and we will gladly help. No questions asked. We are here Tuesday to Sunday but are closed on Mondays.

“Our small kids' menu includes sausages with egg fried rice/chips and peas as well as chicken battered balls with egg fried rice/chips and peas.

“Also, mini veggie spring rolls with egg fried rice/chips and peas, chicken fried rice and peas, beef fried rice and peas and stir-fried chicken noodles with Chinese veggies.”
