A PROTEST labelled “Crips Against Cuts” took place on Truro’s Lemon Quay on Saturday as part of national action against proposed cuts to Personal Independence Payments (PIPs).
Around 150 people gathered to hear speakers including young carers and those who receive PIPs to help them access work.
PIPs support those with long-term physical or mental health conditions or disabilities, described by protest organisers as “some of the most vulnerable people in society”.
“We want to ensure the government does not get away with removing a lifeline under the guise of 'getting people back to work', with little regard for the true repercussions of their actions,” they added.
“We will not stop holding our government to account - in particular Truro MP Jayne Kirkham, who has voiced her support for the cuts - until it treats disabled people with dignity.”
