FIVE fire crews were called out to a car transporter which was engulfed in flames near a Shell fuel station off the A30 in the early hours of this morning (Thursday, April 10).

The fire broke out on the car transporter, which was carrying eight 4x4 vehicles, at Carland Cross, near Mitchell.

Firefighters from Perranporth, St Dennis, Truro and St Columb attended the scene, while a water carrier from Helston was also drafted in.

Many of the cars on board the transporter, as well as the truck itself, were completely destroyed in the fire.

A spokesperson for the Cornwall Fire and Rescue said: “At 00.38 on the 10th April 2025, four fire engines from Perranporth, St Dennis, St Columb, Truro and the Water Carrier from Helston attended a large vehicle fire at Carland Cross. Crews used two breathing apparatus, two monitors and two main jets.”
