NEWQUAY Fire Station is offering residents a home safety check to minimise the risk of a fire breaking out.
A member of the fire service can highlight potential risks, help devise an escape plan and fit a free smoke alarm.
Gary Hales from Newquay Fire Station said: “We will visit people’s home at an allocated time and accompany them around their property with the aim of identifying and making them aware of the potential risks in their home including electrical safety to ensure the sockets are not overloaded.
“We will also make sure people know what to do in order to reduce or prevent these risks. Help them put together an escape plan in case a fire breaks out in the future.
“Ensure the household has a working smoke alarm and if they don't, and fit in with certain criteria, we will fit a free smoke alarm.
“The home fire safety check will take about half an hour of your time. A member from Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service will be wearing a uniform and carrying an identification card.
“We can offer the home fire safety check to anyone in and around Newquay.
“If residents would like a visit, please could they ring Newquay Fire Station on 01872 322070 and state that they have heard about the visit from the Newquay Voice or pop into Newquay Fire Station.”
