SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SOUTH (TUESDAY)

Shaftesbury 2 Mousehole 5

MOUSEHOLE put in an emphatic performance to thrash Shaftesbury 5-2 in Dorset.

The Seagulls were looking to bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Exmouth Town on Saturday, and were boosted by the inclusion of midfielder Josh Bernard on a month’s loan from Plymouth Argyle following a short spell at Tiverton.

He went straight into the starting line-up while another new recruit, Jada Mawongo was on the bench.

Mousehole flew out of the traps and led inside 13 minute via the in-form Hayden Turner, before fellow attacker Tim Nixon doubled the advantage nine minutes later.

Two goals in two minutes before the break then killed the game as a contest as first centre-half James Ward struck on 35 minutes which was added to by the impressive Jack Symons.

It took just 12 minutes for the fifth to arrive via Turner’s second after a debut assist from Bernard, and although Shaftesbury got a couple back on 70 and 88 minutes to add a bit more respectability, the three points were heading back to Cornwall.

In-form Falmouth were denied the chance to continue their six-match winning run as their home clash with Malvern Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Bickland Park.

This evening Helston Athletic, who dramatically beat Cribbs 2-1 on Saturday thanks to injury-time goals, visit Larkhall Athletic near Bath (7.45pm).

MOUSEHOLE: Ollie Chenoweth; Ryan Barrett, Jordan Hackett, Josh Bernard, James Ward, Jack Calver (capt), Tallan Mitchell, Hayden Turner, Tim Nixon, Julio Fresneda, Jack Symons. Subs: Jacob Kevern, Mo Konte, Oscar Massey, Paulo Sousa, Jada Mawongo.
