Southern League Division One South round-up – Saturday, January 18
FALMOUTH Town made it five league wins on the spin on Saturday as they won 6-0 at relegation-threatened Thatcham Town.
The Cornishmen made the long trip up to Berkshire off the back of a 4-1 success at SWPL Premier West outfit Bude Town in midweek, and by half-time it was all but game over at Waterside Park.
They took the lead after just four minutes as left-back Brad Leivers slotted home following a corner.
Jack Webber hit the bar as Town pushed for a second but it 2-0 on 23 minutes as centre-half Harrison Jewell fired in a loose ball.
Olly Walker made it three on 36 minutes and after Rubin Wilson was fouled, he slotted in the penalty himself for 4-0 five minutes later.
Luke Barner provided the goal of the game with a long-range cracker on 67 minutes, and the half dozen was up 11 minutes from time when sub Luke Brabyn beat his man before finding the net.
Man of the match was Jared Sims for his three assists.
Town’s Cornish rivals Mousehole provided one of the latest goals seen in recent memory as James Ward’s goal in the 103rd minute earned a priceless point at Westbury United, a result which leaves them three points inside the play-off places.
The Seagulls led in the 22nd minute through the in-form Hayden Turner, but Ryan Bole’s header from a corner levelled matters on 32 minutes.
It looked as if Joe Beardwell’s fine finish past Ollie Chenoweth would give Westbury all three points, but Ward’s finish from a corner ensured a valuable point headed back to Cornwall.
Helston Athletic were beaten 1-0 by Bideford in North Devon.
A tight contest was settled just four minutes from time when former Blue Archie Reay beat Kyle Moore from close range.
