Southern League Division One South round-up – Saturday, February 8
IN-FORM Falmouth Town’s superb winning run came to an end at Yate Town on Saturday, but not before the Cornishmen gave the leaders an almighty scare.
Town headed up to Gloucestershire unbeaten in 2025, but fell behind on 45 minutes to Wayne Nderemani’s finish, although they were fortunate not to go in further behind at the break as keeper Morgan Coxhead saved a penalty.
But the Bluebells look a good bet to be in the mix come the spring and doubled their lead 13 minutes into the second half via King Baidoo.
Town had plenty of promising moments without quite taking their chances, but did grab a consolation in the sixth minute of injury-time from Jack Webber on his 200th appearance for the Amber and Blacks.
Mousehole remain in contention for a play-off place after seeing off Cinderford Town 3-1 at Trungle Parc.
The Seagulls earned a 1-1 draw at Bemerton Heath Harlequins the week before thanks to Oscar Massey, and the in-form striker put his side ahead on 27 minutes.
Bottom side Cinderford have recovered from a poor start to the season to give themselves a chance of getting out of trouble, but went 2-0 down three minutes after the break through Jack Symons.
Hayden Turner continued his goal-scoring form with a third on 66 minutes as the majority of the 247-strong crowd enjoyed their afternoon.
Cinderford did get an 87th minute consolation via Benjamin Watkins, but Mousehole sit well placed in fourth despite Bemerton Heath Harlequins and Bishops Cleeve having games in-hand.
The Harlequins enjoyed their trip to Cornwall on Saturday as they saw off out-of-form Helston Athletic 1-0 at Kellaway Park.
Kieran Douglas got the Wiltshire side’s winner after 21 minutes.
Helston have an eight-point cushion over fourth bottom Tavistock who occupy the final relegation spot.
