A popular public electric bike hire scheme in Newquay has been extended.

The E-bike scheme, operated by Beryl Bikes following a grant from the Department for Transport, has added new stops in Quintrell Downs, Prow Park and Pargolla Road.

E-bike stations have already been installed across the town and outlying areas including the Piazza, Nansledan, Pentire, Porth, St Columb Minor, Hendra Holiday Park, Treloggan and Trenance Valley.

The E-Bike initiative is being operated for an initial period of five years with options to extend the scheme further.

Newquay Central and Pentire Cornwall councillor Louis Gardner said: “Three years ago I secured funding for the Beryl Bike scheme in Newquay and we became one of the first places in Cornwall to roll out this groundbreaking scheme.

“Since then, I have been working with the company to secure more bikes and more stops and I'm pleased to say that we are adding 15 more bikes and three more stops.

“There are now new stops in Quintrell Downs, Prow Park and Pargolla Road.

“Newquay remains one if the most popular Beryl Bike schemes in the entire country.
