TRIBUTES have been paid to a much-loved Newquay character following his passing.

Gregor Burnett, aged 75, is remembered for living life to the full, being on hand to give his worldly advice and having a fun story to tell.

The fun loving party person first came to Newquay from Reading in 1961 after his twin brother Alec had shown him the town and decided not to go back.

Gregor had two daughters and was married to Ann who helped organise Newquay 1900 Week and Newquay Carnival.

Daughter Emma Burnett said: “Gregor the legend, husband, father and best friend to so many has sadly passed.

“After a stroke last year dad was recovering well, and we thank Clovelly Care Home and all their amazing staff for all the lovely home cooked food and care

“With a walker dad was up and about enjoying what he loved best socialising with friends watching bands and having the odd drink.

“Unfortunately, dad had a big fall and was taken to Treliske.

“He had his family around him but has moved on to the ultimate nightclub in the sky.

“He will be missed by all who got the chance to hear one of his many legendary stories or be part of his adventures.

“More than 500 people surprisingly have messaged me with well wishes, stories, adventures and messages on their stories of how he helped them.

“He helped people less fortunate find jobs, find places to rent and connect people together through positivity and love for life and laughter.

“He also helped support musicians in local bands and independent music venues.”

Nicole Grant from Whiskers said: “We’re heartbroken to hear of the passing of our dear friend and customer, Gregor.

“Gregor was the epitome of cool, always celebrating live music and a huge supporter of Whiskers.

“Gregor always knew what was happening around town and if you arrived somewhere and he was there, you knew you'd come to the best party happening that night.

“We feel so grateful that he joined us for our final gig. One of so many he attended over the years. His absence leaves a huge gap in our community.”
