NEWQUAY’S fishing heritage was brought to life with the town’s first ever Pilchard Run on Saturday. (June 22)
More than 250 people made the historic journey from the Huer’s Hut to Newquay Harbour, which was organised by Trenance Learning Academy.
Teacher Karl Fice Thomson dressed for the occasion in a pilchard outfit and stood atop the Huers Hut blowing his horn and shouting ‘Hevva Hevva,’ which was the cry that went out to launch the seine boats when a shoal of pilchards was seen in the bay.
