NEWQUAY’S RNLI lifeguard team is taking the plunge to raise funds to celebrate the charity’s 200th anniversary.

They aim to complete 200 25m swimming pool lengths underwater, they then do an immediate return length doing the freestyle swimming stroke at Newquay Leisure World on Friday, August 2.

The combined 50 metre swim is part of the RNLI lifeguard’s training and must be completed in under 50 seconds. The lifeguard team aim to complete 200 in one hour.

RNLI lead lifeguard supervisor for Newquay Lewis Timson said: “We wanted to mark this huge milestone in the charity’s history and raise vital funds for its future. We are hoping to live stream the event on social media.”
