NEWQUAY Fire Station hosted a fun-filled open day to showcase its work to the community.

Dozens of people attended the popular annual event at its headquarters in Tregunnel Hill on Tuesday, August 27.

Visitors were able to meet local firefighters, explore the fire appliances, and enjoy a barbecue, cake stalls, and other fun activities including a golf putting game, Splat The Rat and ball in the hole. Emergency services who operate alongside the fire service attended the open day to highlight what they do, which included Cornwall Air Ambulance and Devon & Cornwall Police.

There were also various fun stalls, prizes and refreshments on offer including some fiery hotdogs from the barbecue.

The open day raised funds for the Firefighters Charity and the Royal British Legion.

A number of charities were also in attendance raising funds including Newquay Rotary Club and Newquay Hospital League of Friends. The NHS mental health awareness team were also in attendance.

Crew manager Luke Livinstone said: “The open day has gone really well. It’s been brilliant.

“There has been a good attendance but unfortunately we’ve not been able to do any demonstrations as we’ve had two shouts to provide back up for Bodmin Community Fire Station.”
