THE newly crowned British middleweight boxing champion from Newquay has received a prestigious community award for his contribution to the town.
Brad Pauls was presented with a Citizenship Award by Newquay Town Council at the Killacourt Bandstand during a family fun day by the deputy mayor Margaret North on Saturday, August 23.
The boxer was joined by family, friends, and members of the local community at the event, which was a celebration not only of his recent victory but of his ongoing contributions to the town.
Brad, affectionately known as The Newquay Bomb, beat Stoke's Nathan Heaney in Birmingham on July 20. The win saw Brad became the first Cornish fighter to win a British title since 1939.
The Newquay Town Council Citizenship Award is presented to individuals who have made significant positive impacts on the community, embodying the spirit of the town through their actions and achievements. Brad Pauls is a shining example of such an individual, inspiring countless young people with his perseverance, sportsmanship, and commitment to excellence both inside and outside the ring.
Newquay Town Council stated Brad’s achievement has brought “pride not only to Newquay but to the whole of Cornwall.”
Mayor Cllr Drew Creek said: “Newquay Town Council is proud to announce that Brad Pauls, a local hero and newly crowned British Middleweight Champion, has been honoured with a Citizenship Award for Outstanding Achievement for his contributions to the community.
"Brad’s journey from a young boy training in local gyms to becoming the British Middleweight Champion is a story that resonates deeply with our community.
“He has not only brought national recognition to Newquay but has also been a role model for our youth, demonstrating that with hard work and dedication, dreams can indeed come true.
“We are honoured to present Brad with this Citizenship Award as a token of our appreciation.”
Brad added: “Thank you very much. I appreciate the support. I’ve really felt the love since the fight. I’m absolutely honoured to get this award. Hopefully more belts to come to Newquay in Cornwall. Peace and love.”
