A motorcyclist has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after being involved in a road traffic accident on the outskirts of St Columb Major on Friday afternoon, (May 31).

The rider was reportedly involved in a collision with a van on Hurlings Way by the turning to the industrial estate at about 1.20pm.

Cornwall Air Ambulance airlifted the motorcyclist to Derriford Hospital.

Police closed the road between Trekenning roundabout and Newquay road whilst emergency services were at the scene. Traffic was diverted through St Columb Major, which caused congestion.

A police spokesperson said: "Police were notified by the ambulance service of a collision involving van and motorcycle on Hurling Way, St Columb.

"A road closure was put in place. The rider of the motorcycle has been airlifted to Derriford Hospital by Cornwall Air Ambulance with what are believed to be serious injuries."
