A DARING team of travel agents are set to take to the skies – and then jump out of the plane.

A dozen members of staff from Newells Travel will be undertaking a skydive in Cornwall on Sunday (June 2).

The jump at Perranporth Airfield is being organised by Lisa Hawken, the manager of the Newells Travel branch in St Austell.

Lisa told the Voice: “Newells Travel has 11 shops within Cornwall and Devon. We support the Cornwall Air Ambulance and often run raffles etc to raise money.

“This year I decided to up our game and try and raise as much as possible, so I set about getting a Newells Travel team together to do a skydive!

“Cornwall Air Ambulance offer skydive days, with the minimum number required being 12, so I signed up 12 brave colleagues including myself to take part.

“We have set ourselves a target of £7,000 and are currently on £6,425.

“Each branch has done their bit to help raise funds with treasure hunts, pub quizzes, cycle rides and raffles, plus we have a Just Giving page set up via our Facebook page.

“This charity is close to everyone’s heart and we all know someone who has needed its help.

“Living somewhere like Cornwall, it is essential we all support the air ambulance as access to some more remote parts of the county can be difficult and, in a crisis, saving time is often crucial.

“The charity receives no funding from the government, it relies on donations. So, as a local company, we wanted to do all we could to help.

“This was my idea and, at the time of arranging it, I was feeling brave. I have to say that now it’s very close, I am very nervous!

“My St Austell colleagues, Annie Hughes and Yasmin Walmsley, on the other hand are very excited, so I am putting on a brave face.

“We are being joined by nine colleagues from other branches.

“People can give donations to the Cornwall Air Ambulance at our branch in St Austell or via the Just Giving page.”
