THE Right Reverend David Williams has been confirmed as the new Bishop of Truro.
The former Suffragan Bishop of Basingstoke succeeds the The Bishop of St Germans, the Rt Revd Hugh Nelson, who has been acting as Bishop of Truro since the departure of Bishop Philip Mounstephen who moved to the See of Winchester.
The confirmation of election took place at St Mary-le-Bow Church on Friday, March 28 and David, who is now the 17th Bishop of Truro, will welcomed and installed at a service in Truro Cathedral on Saturday, May 17.

The announcement of Bishop David’s appointment was made back in December while he visited St Meriadoc’s Junior School in Camborne, addressing 4,000 children at Church of England schools across Cornwall via Zoom.
On that day he said: “I can’t tell you how excited I am to be coming to Truro. It’s been an astonishing journey, enriched by so many people I’ve met on the way, who clearly have been praying and seeking wisdom for the future of the church in Cornwall.”

Ordained in 1989, David began his ministry as a curate in Ecclesall, Sheffield Diocese. He was a priest in Dore before being appointed Rural Dean of Ecclesall in 1997. In 2002, he became the vicar of Christ Church in Winchester and was made an honorary canon of Winchester Cathedral in 2012.
