RESIDENTS are being urged to keep a watchful eye on a park in St Austell after vandals targeted a children’s swing using large nails.

The vandals left two three-and-a-half-inch nails in the new accessible basket swing at Landrew Road Park.

St Austell Town Council, which manages the park, has described the act as “wilful vandalism that could have quite easily hurt a child”.

The council is urging vigilance, saying: “Security personnel will be patrolling the area from time to time but we ask the public to please keep a watchful eye on the park and the play equipment.

“If you see any further issues, please report them to the town council. If the matter is urgent, please contact the police.”
