PARENTS and carers were invited to come on board to listen to their children sing sea shanties at a Newquay school on Friday.
Year 5 pupils performed various traditional seafaring songs including Drunken Sailor, Hail Away Joe and Cornwall, My Home.
A school spokesperson said: “Year 5 students had the opportunity to showcase their hard work as they performed their sea shanties to a fantastic turnout of adults.
“The performance, linked to their class text The Explorer, was a brilliant celebration of their efforts and learning throughout the term.
“We are always so grateful for the adults who are able to attend these events, and the support for this was no exception.
“The students have been practising tirelessly under the direction of the talented Mr Parmenter.
“As a student teacher, he has made a significant impact on the Year 5 group, and we wish him every success as he moves forward in his teaching career.
“The emotional performance of Cornwall, My Home brought a few tears, while the lively renditions of Drunken Sailor and Haul Away Joe brought the energy back up.
“It was a great way to finish the term.”
