Tyacks Hotel in Camborne has provided the backdrop for some of the strongest men and women in Cornwall being put through their paces.
The day-long ‘Cornwall’s Most Powerful’ event saw competitors take part in five gruelling challenges.
Spectators watched in awe as metal cylinder logs were lifted over heads in 60-second bouts, heavy objects were carried on shoulders whilst running, weighted sleds were dragged, concrete-filled kegs were transported, and stones of incremental poundage were lifted onto a purpose-built platform.
Organised by local strongman Martin Foster, and the first event of its kind to be held in Cornwall since 2022, the competition raised more than £500 for the Huntington’s Disease Association and Marie Curie.
“It was great to have the support of a large crowd who, despite the rain, made lots of noise to cheer on the athletes – especially in the fifth and final event,” said Martin.
“I couldn’t have organised everything singlehandedly and am very grateful to everyone who helped – including referees David Williams and Kieron Evans who both have impressive strongmen achievements of their own.
“Other special thanks go to the sponsors, Sam Bowen and his team at the Tyacks Hotel, those who lent specialised strongmen kit and the Cornwall Rewind radio team who played non-stop music.”
Hannah Beard won the women’s title, Jake Speller the Men’s Intermediate and Conner Bagley the Men’s Novice.
“We’re really pleased that Camborne was chosen as the venue and that lots of people came,” said BID Camborne manager Anna Pascoe.
“The Tyacks Hotel put on an outside bar, money was raised for two excellent charities and there was a sense of watching something extraordinary. The competitors were amazing!”
The next strongman competition is being planned for December. For more information, follow Cornwall’s Most Powerful on Facebook and Instagram.
