Redruth Town Council’s Library moved outdoors for the day to East End Park with a Fun in the Park event.
At the heart of the event, was this year’s Summer Reading Challenge which has the theme of ‘Marvellous Makers’ and was the perfect opportunity to promote the summer reading challenge, library services and enjoy one of Redruth’s great green spaces. Cornwall Council’s library van also attended and was well stocked with new books to help the children reach their reading goals.
The library’s regular Friday Rhyme Time moved from its usual setting to a huge picnic rug where parents, babies, toddlers, and young children gathered to sing songs, dance and read stories.
There were many other free activities for children to join in with, including kite making and flying using recycled materials. Children (and even some adults) enjoyed getting their faces painted by volunteers in a variety of colourful designs and there were also bubbles and games provided by Redruth Town Council across the whole park.
Cllr Stephen Barnes, mayor of Redruth said “It was fantastic to hear so many youngsters from our community enjoyed a day of sunshine and fun-free activities in East End Park. The Redruth Library is such a valuable community asset in the heart of our town; I hope events like this can continue.”
Sarah Bolton, acting manager of Redruth Library said: “Fun in the Park was a fantastic chance to take the library outside. We were fortunate enough to be blessed with sunshine, and many families joined in the fun and borrowed more books for their Summer Reading Challenge.”
The next summer activity is the Redruth Fun Day at Victoria Park in Redruth on Sunday, August 25 from 11am to 3pm. This event will feature stalls, music, entertainment and the ever-popular Dog Show.
