At Truro High School for Girls (THG), 10 per cent of students achieved 12 GCSEs with a further 30 per cent celebrating success in 11 different subjects. Some students scored up to four grades higher than predicted.

Well done to Izzy, who picked up 11 GCSEs, all at the highest grades. Izzy balanced her studies with being a national standard cross-country runner, a leading role in the THG dance show at Hall For Cornwall, and an appearance in the school production of Lord of the Flies.

Ukrainian boarder Alina also picked up 11 top GCSEs, a phenomenal success in the face of an incredibly difficult time. Alina led the school in raising more than £4,000 to support families in the war-torn country, and spoke with passion and dignity about the terror her family were facing back home.

When they were 11 years old, talented bakers Plum and Daisy created a baking company as part of the Fiver Challenge, beating 38,000 others to win a national enterprise award. Today both girls have a Food and Nutrition GCSE under their belts; Plum will study food, business studies, geography and psychology at sixth form, while Daisy hopes to pursue marine engineering.

Among those collecting results was Jemima, who also had a lead role in Little Shop of Horrors. Proud mum Caroline said: “Jemima joined Truro High in Year 10. The all-girls environment gave her the courage to take academic risks and her self-confidence has just soared.

“I am so proud of her exam results but on top of that she has been supported to dance in the show, to be in the play, to perform in a rock band and to just remember to have fun.”

Some younger students choose to sit additional GCSEs early after attending lunchtime or after-school clubs. Year 9’s Scarlett picked up a top grade in her Astronomy GCSE, while Year 10s Ellie, Zoe and Arabella were rewarded with early GCSEs in media studies and Russian.

Headmistress Sarah Matthews said: “I am absolutely delighted with the results, which demonstrate the superb academic tenacity and determination the girls have shown. They have worked incredibly hard, and have been justly rewarded. Their individual stories of growth and resilience are amazing.”
