Pendower Beach Hotel Holdings (PBHH) Ltd, owners of the former Pendower Beach HouseHotel on the Roseland Peninsula, known as the ‘pink hotel’, are holding a publicconsultation event this afternoon to outline its revised plans for theregeneration of the disused and largely derelict former hotel. The event will run from 2pm to 7pm in the courtyard next to Shallikabooky Beach Hut Café at Pendower Beach (TR2 5LW).Local residents, members of the public andstakeholders are being given the opportunity to view, ask questions about andcomment on the proposed plans, which are designed to breathe life back intowhat has become a sadly neglected site.
The aim of the consultation is to gain feedback on the new plans, which are much changedfrom those outlined in 2019/20: 25% smaller in scale, removing all previouslyproposed residential apartments, and reflecting feedback from the parish councilsof Philleigh, Gerrans and Veryan, and the Friends of Pendower Beachorganisation.
Designed to protect the sensitive local environment and to provide year-round economicbenefit to the local economy, the plans for a destination aparthotel consist ofa reduced, two-storey scheme encompassing 23 two- and three-bedroom familyself-catering holiday-let suites, a public restaurant with 40 internal and 32external covers, and a café and shop for use by self-catering visitors and beachgoersduring the day and evening.
The public consultation will provide an opportunity to view the outline plans forthe aparthotel, restaurant, shop and cafe. This will include access to physical models, CGIs, presentation boards, and site tours. Penryn-based Koha Architects as well as experts in planning, ecology, landscape architecture, transport, civil engineering, and geotechnical design will be on hand to answerquestions.
PBHH Ltd was set up by local property developer Johnny Goldsmith in 2007 to buy the hotel. Mr Goldsmith said: “Having listened carefully to all previous feedback, we believe that the new, reduced and significantly revised plans strike a good balance between protecting the local environmentand providing an economically viable business that will bring both benefit to local communities, and enhanced amenities for users of Pendower Beach.
“Combined with necessary £1m stabilisation work to protect road access to Pendower Beachand its slipway – future-proofing Rocky Lane against coastal erosion for future generations - we hope the new plans, which include extensive work to protect and enrich the natural environment through our environmental custodianship commitment, will be well received.”
Among the details that will be shared with those attending the public consultation eventwill be information on the design features of the aparthotel, restaurant, café and shop; plans for a new bat hibernaculum; removal of invasive species and historic potential pollutants that threaten the natural environment; details on new native planting and retention of all significant trees; use ofrenewable energy; burying of overhead power cables; cliff stabilisation to safeguard access to the beach and slipway via Rocky Lane; sympathetic changes to the historic farmhouse, with eco-design and sensitive use of local building materials; sustainable drainage solutions; planned information boards; and enhanced amenities for users of Pendower Beach.
There will be an opportunity for visitors to the public consultation to share their views on the Pendower Beach Hotel Regeneration plans via a feedback form. Those unable to attend the event can find information about the revised plans and an online feedback form at www.pendower-development.co.uk
