Truro’s Lemon Quay was awash with Cornish tartan and St Piran flags as the crowds gathered for the city’s annual St Piran’s Day parade. Primary schoolchildren performed dances learned at workshops commissioned by Lowender, before joining the procession with members of Old Cornwall Societies bearing large banners.
At High Cross, speeches were delivered from the steps of Truro Cathedral, with speakers including Bert Biscoe, president of Truro Old Cornwall Society; Lord Lieutenant Edward Bolitho representing the Duke of Cornwall; High Sheriff Sam Galsworthy; and Grand Bard Jenefer Lowe. Russell Pascoe, conductor of the Truro Male Choir, led a rousing rendition of Trelawny.
The winner of the shop window dressing competition was Truro Fabrics, and the City of Truro steamroller, which flattened many of the city’s thoroughfares, was on view.
