West Cornwall Table Tennis League latest round-up

BRIDGE A have retained their Premier Division crown with a game to spare following a 10-0 victory over Bridge D.

The side, which are based at Carnkie Village Hall near Redruth, are now 14 points clear of Bridge B before their final match against visiting Mounts Bay A.

Bridge B have a two-point cushion over Bridge C following their 7-3 success at Mounts Bay A which saw trebles from Stephen Lobb and Keith Swain, while Bridge C ran out 8-2 victors over St Austell B with both Tom Clack and Kelly Plumb unbeaten all evening.

At the bottom, it’s all to play for to decide which two go down with three sides – Cape Cornwall A, Penpol A and Creekside A all at risk and separated by just two points.

Cape Cornwall welcomed Creekside on Monday night (March 24) with the two battling out a 5-5 draw, which saw a treble from David White for the visitors.

Penpol picked up a potentially crucial four points in their defeat to St Austell A who saw Alfie Tangye win all three.

It means heading into the final round – third from last Cape Cornwall are two ahead of Creekside with Penpol sandwiched in between.

The other match saw Falmouth Docks A ease past Peoples Palace 8-2 with Mark Meijvis and Aiden Rollason win three each for the hosts.

Helston-based Godolphin A will be in the Premier next season as they sit 19 points clear in Division One

But the race to join them goes down to the wire with Bridge E in pole position.

They saw off St Austell C 6-4 to realistically end the Saints’ hopes, although Mounts Bay C who drew 5-5 with the leaders, have a game in-hand and are eight adrift.

At the other end, third bottom Falmouth Docks C are three points clear of St Austell D who occupy the second relegation spot and five ahead of Godolphin C.

Both Falmouth and St Austell have two to play.

Penpol B have a four-point lead at the top of Division Two from Godolphin D with both sides having two to play with Cape Cornwall C guaranteed third.

Second bottom Mounts Bay D are guaranteed to finish in the bottom two and sit 13 points clear of Godolphin E who have four games in-hand.

However, they sit 27 points adrift of St Agnes B.

Division Three is finished bar one match with Peoples Palace D clinching the title by 12 points from runners-up Falmouth Docks D.

St Austell E finished last in the seven-team division, while Creekside E can overtake their D team counterparts if they beat St Austell F 8-2.
