HELSTON have bolstered their squad for the upcoming 2025 ECB Cornwall Premier League campaign with the signing of Somerset star Lewis Goldsworthy.

The batting all-rounder, who also bowls his left-arm spin, joins from Camborne following the Roskear club’s relegation from the top-flight.

Goldsworthy, who started his senior career at Troon before a brief spell at St Just, may only make a handful of appearances, but the Blues will hope for a series of match-winning performances at the top of the order as they look to ensure there’s no relegation battle this time around at Beacon Parc.

Such is their desire to be more competitive, new captain Dan Jenkin, who has replaced Mark Jenkin in the role, has bolstered the side with a couple of other additions.

Australian Yuvi Sharma, a top-order batsman and spinner, replaces South African Lance Alberts as the overseas player, while UK passport holder Harry Saunders, who comes from Perth is also coming over as an all-rounder.

There are some departures as Justin Stephens has gone back to St Just and taken his son Lewis with him, while spinner Charlie Hearn has elected to join champions Penzance. However, Helston look a good bet to enjoy a better season.

Friendlies start with a home clash against neighbours Mullion on April 19 before a big double-header the next weekend.

Saturday sees them make the short trip up to Camborne, which will be particularly well contested, before they face a tough task at West of England Premier League side Bridgwater in the first round of the National Club Knockout the next day.

Bridgwater have the likes of Warwickshire spinner Jacob Lintott and hard-hitting Somerset opener Will Smeed amongst the ranks and have signed Wales all-rounder Alex Russell over the winter.

Helston’s Premier League campaign gets underway with a home clash against Truro on May 3 (1pm).
