SWPL PREMIER WEST (WEDNESDAY)

NEWQUAY bounced back to winning ways and returned to the top of the table in impressive style in the Cornish capital on Wednesday night with a 4-0 victory over Truro City Reserves, writes Kevin Marriott.

Only five days after suffering their first league defeat of the season at Dobwalls, the Peppermints dominated another away game and this time added the goals after drawing a blank at Lantoom on Saturday.

Tom Shepherd set them on their way with an 18th minute opener but that proved to be the only goal of a competitive first half.

Substitute Phil Lowry took only four minutes of the second half to double Newquay’s lead before Truro had a great opportunity to hit back with a 51st minute penalty which Alfie Flack sent high and wide.

Wideman Louis Price extended Newquay’s lead in the 65th minute and substitute Coen Briggs completed the scoring seven minutes from time.

Elsewhere in the division on Wednesday night, Bude Town enjoyed a 6-2 success over visiting Launceston.

Mark Elvidge put the Clarets ahead before Tom Davey and Joe Barker gave the Seasiders a half-time lead.

A ten-minute spell early in the second half saw Bude score three times through Barker, Davey and Maximus Alvarez-Lopera, and although Elvidge grabbed his second, Rocco Dyer completed a fine night for Steve Hackett’s men.
