SWPL PREMIER WEST (SATURDAY)
Holsworthy 2 Wadebridge Town 3
THE Magpies paid for a slow start as Wadebridge Town left with all three points.
Holsworthy were playing for the first time in nearly a fortnight, and had to do without skipper Jedd Peschke, sent off in the last league game, while several were unavailable.
Wadebridge included former Bude Town duo Billy Hopcroft and Harry Hopcroft in their line-up and started well, but it was on ten minutes that the hosts went close when Sam Jago struck the post.
Town took the lead on 27 minutes. A cross-field pass found Dylan Peters on the right, and the young winger sent in a cross that Matt Lloyd volleyed in from ten yards.
Peters has made a real impression at Bodieve Park in recent weeks and added a second eight minutes later when he smacked a 25-yard drive past the hapless Ryan Chadwick.
The hosts should have pulled one back within 60 seconds as Ben Sharpe blazed over following Jacob Nosworthy’s ball over the top, but did so two minutes after the break as Gavin Carter’s ball in from the right somehow found the far corner.
But on 53 minutes the two-goal lead was restored as Peters’ cross from the right was superbly headed back where it came from by Lloyd from 16 yards.
The hosts were much improved after the break and although Jago’s superb ball in was finished off by Blake Shapland, they were down to ten men with 15 to play when Carter was sent off for a two-footed lunge.
Holsworthy huffed and puffed for an equaliser, but to no avail.
