Newquay have been promoted to the Western League Premier Division for the first time in their history after thrashing Wendron United 5-0 this evening to win the SWPL Premier West title at Mount Wise

In front of a record South West Peninsula League crowd of 1864, the Peppermints, who needed a draw before Liskeard’s final game at Millbrook tomorrow, led 2-0 at the break thanks to Louis Price’s double, the second of which was a goal of the season contender.

Then, in front of a fervent home crowd, Newquay cruised through the second half and an own goal plus late efforts from subs Callam McOnie and Alex Cole added the gloss to a night nobody will ever forget.

After some lengthy celebrations on the pitch, Newquay captain Harry Downing lifted the trophy to cap off a remarkable season for the coastal club who will now face Premier East champions Sidmouth Town at Crediton United on Saturday, May 3.
