Southern League Division One South round-up – Saturday, October 12

HELSTON Athletic followed up their 4-1 victory at Tavistock in midweek by scoring five goals at fellow high-flyers Bristol Manor Farm, yet remarkably the Blues had to settle for a point.

The Cornishmen took a 15th minute lead through a Jamie Adams own goal, but soon found themselves behind thanks to Josh Bissett (18) and Rhys Thomas (28).

In scarcely believable scenes, Helston equalised on 29 minutes following a goalmouth scramble courtesy of Jack Crago who joined on a permanent basis in midweek from Plymouth Parkway, but were again behind just five minutes later with Bissett getting his second.

The free-scoring Louis Britton gave the Farm a two-goal advantage on 42 minutes, but by half-time it was 4-3 as a backpass from Harry Lucas went pass Seth Locke.

Whatever Matt Cusack said at the break had the desired effect as Helston equalised within ten seconds of the restart thanks to midfielder Jacob Smith, but yet again the hosts scored again on 52 minutes with the dangerous Bissett notching his hat-trick.

After just the 23 minutes without a goal, it was Helston who secured a priceless point as Crago finished off a set piece.

Mousehole were surprisingly beaten 4-2 by Melksham Town at Trungle Parc.

In front of a sizeable crowd of 412 in West Cornwall, the in-form Tim Nixon put the hosts in front on seven minutes, but they were soon behind thanks to Jacob Brown (15) and Mark Cooper (23).

Nixon restored parity on 42 minutes, but Town went in front in added time via Henry Sady.

Brown’s second three minutes after the break ensured the points headed back to Wiltshire.

Falmouth Town backed up their superb victory over Exmouth Town with a 2-0 success at Shaftesbury Town thanks to Oscar Massey’s first half brace.
