HELSTON Athletic bounced back from their home draw at the weekend with a 4-1 victory in West Devon at Tavistock on Wednesday night in Southern League Division One South.

The Blues headed to Langsford Park off the back of a 1-1 draw with Shaftesbury Town, but by half-time were 3-1 up thanks to Callum Martindale, Reece Thomson, Callum O’Brien, and within two minutes of the restart were further ahead through former Lambs favourite Jack Crago.

Both teams had early chances with Ben Steer being denied by Kyle Moore, while at the other end, Aaron Dearing was on hand to save from Reece Thomson.

But it was actually Tavistock that took the lead just 15 minutes in Alfie Cunningham sent in a cross that Steer headed underneath Moore and in.

But within three minutes the Blues were level as the wing-backs combined with Dave Barker’s ball in from the right being finished off by Callum Martindale.

Crago turned provider on 28 minutes as he found Thomson who made no mistake.

Former Lamb Tyler Elliott was brilliantly denied by Dearing with shot looking destined for the top corner, before both Jordan Bentley (Helston) Tallan Burns (Tavistock) were booked.

And from the latter’s booking, the resulting free-kick on 39 minutes was sent in which was headed home by O’Brien.

Tavistock needed a quick start to the second period, but it was 4-1 on 47 minutes as Aaron Bentey’s shot from distance gave Dearing no chance.

Tavi, who had brought on four substitutes by the hour mark, continued to create some chances, as did Helston whose wide play was superb.

But despite both teams having their moments, no further goals were added.
