HELSTON Athletic were held to a 1-1 by Shaftesbury Town on Saturday in Southern League Division One South.
Matt Cusack’s Blues were in league action for the first time in a fortnight following a fine start to the season, but were frustrated by their mid-table visitors.
Helston went into the game having beaten neighbours Wendron United in the Cornwall Senior Cup and took a 28thminute lead through towering frontman Reece Thomson.
But Town equalised six minutes later through Toby Bailey, and although both chances had their moments, the points were shared.
Up the A394 at Bickland Park, Falmouth Town recorded a third victory as Oscar Massey’s double helped them see off Devon outfit Exmouth Town by two goals to one.
In front of another hefty crowd, this time of 405, the first half was a tense affair with defences on top.
But Massey used his pace to devastating effect after the break, including the opener on 50 minutes as he broke clear from just inside the Exmouth half before finishing past Frankie Phillips.
Harrison Jewell was sent off for the hosts on the hour, and when Callum Shipton levelled it up, Exmouth appeared favourites.
But in Massey Falmouth have a game-changer and after another blistering run was ended in the box, he got up himself to send the penalty home.
Tom Bath was denied an injury-time equaliser as the assistant spotted a foul, much to the surprise of many inside the ground, and after eight minutes of injury-time, the whistle finally went.
Mousehole had the afternoon off but were too good for Bideford on Tuesday night as they beat the North Devon side 4-1 at Trungle Parc.
Mark Goldsworthy helped himself to a brace and although Josh Webber pulled one back on 62 minutes, further goals from Jack Calver and Torin Ntege kept the Seagulls in the play-off places.
