Southern League Division One South round-up – Saturday, September 28
PROLIFIC striker Mark Goldsworthy scored twice as Mousehole produced an epic comeback to win 3-2 at Thatcham Town on Saturday.
It was the first ever league meeting between the two clubs following Town’s promotion last year and with it being just the Seagulls’ second ever campaign at Step Four.
Mousehole to Thatcham is a 500-plus mile round trip, and after 12 minutes it appeared the points would stay in Berkshire as they led 2-0 through Oliver Bourne and Shamar Moore, the first of which came after seven minutes.
But Mousehole, who were beaten in the play-offs by Frome Town last season, rallied spectacularly after the restart.
They scored within a minute of the restart through Torin Ntege’s penalty, before Goldsworthy’s rally.
He made it all square on 62 minutes before adding the winner three minutes later.
Both teams had chances before the end at the Mettal Stadium, but it was Jake Ash’s men who made the long trip back to Cornwall with the sweetest of three points.
Cornish rivals Falmouth Town were also on their travels with the somewhat shorter trip to Bristol Manor Farm.
But while Mousehole headed back in fine fettle, Town boss Andy Westgarth had plenty to ponder following a 5-1 thrashing.
They also were 2-0 down early on – this time after 18 minutes through Daniel Dodimead (3) and Joshua Bissett.
Town who are getting used to life without influential captain James Ward who has left the club for Mousehole, were also without midfielder Andrew Elcock, but pulled one back ten minutes before the break through attacker Cam Hutchison.
But the Manor Farm are second for a reason and put the afterburners on after the break with further goals arriving through Louis Britton’s brace and an effort from Dylan Tate.
