ST IVES Tennis Club presented a cheque for the £700 proceeds from their recent charity tennis and pickleball day to Cornwall Air Ambulance on a visit to the HQ alongside Newquay Airport.
The tennis club group also saw close up how quickly the Air Ambulance crew take to the skies as their talk with pilot Andrew Westwood and paramedics Thomas Jones and Paul Maskell was brought to a swift halt after only a few minutes when the latest emergency call came in.
They were ushered back inside the Air Ambulance HQ and less than five minutes later the AW169 helicopter was airbound in response to the call.
The Tennis Club have been able to make a small contribution to the current HELi2 appeal to raise the £2.8-million needed to complete the funding to buy a second helicopter and increase the hours they can provide this service for Cornwall.
Since the arrival of their first AW169 in 2020, Cornwall Air Ambulance been tasked to more than 3,000 missions. This would be the first time that Air Ambulance has owned two aircraft and will put the charity at the forefront of air ambulance critical care provision in the UK.
