THERE were lots of smiles and tears of joy as Newquay Tretherras students opened their GCSE results on Thursday following two years of hard work.
More than three quarters of students achieved GCSE grades of 4 or higher, and a quarter of students achieved Grade 7 or above in all GCSE grades, which is significantly above national averages.
Students also achieved more than 100 Grade 9s, the highest grade. Top performers included Sam L; Evie M; Evie M; Alicia R; and Ronan P who all had an average grade of a Grade 9.
A spokesperson for Newquay Tretherras said: “Newquay Tretherras is celebrating a set of GCSE results to be proud of with results above national averages at every measure.
“The class of 2024 were full of smiles and tears of joy as they opened their envelopes, supported by teachers who couldn’t be prouder of their achievements.
“With over three quarters of all GCSE grades being a Grade 4 or higher, and a quarter of students achieving Grade 7 or above in all GCSE grades, figures significantly above national averages, there is much to celebrate.
“Grades 9s are notoriously difficult to achieve, yet our Newquay Tretherras students achieved 100 between them.
“Special mention must also go to Richard K; Finola S; Flora M and Reuben B, who have all made astonishing progress whilst being at Newquay Tretherras.
“There are so many stories of success with students achieving placements on apprenticeships or highly regarded vocational courses, and many staying to do A Levels here at Newquay Tretherras.
“We wish them all the luck with their next steps and know they have bright and exciting futures ahead of them.”
Head of School, Gemma Harries, said: “We couldn’t be prouder of our young people. They have been a pleasure to work with and faced their GSCE and vocational courses with real determination and smiles.
“This Year 11 cohort have offered us a real sense of joy.
“They have worked hard, celebrated and supported each other, and should be proud of all they have achieved.”
