Three reuse shops are opening at selected Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs) across Cornwall.
Run by Suez Recycling and Recovery UK, which operates Cornwall’s HWRCs on behalf of Cornwall Council, the first Kernow Reuse Shop opened at Truro HWRC at the start of September, with shops at St Austell and United Downs HWRCs due to open in the coming weeks.
As well as reducing waste and protecting the environment, reuse shops save customers money by stocking a variety of pre-loved items - including home and garden accessories, small electricals, sports equipment, books and DVDs, and everything in between - at affordable prices.
SUEZ renew manager Becky Parry said: "We hope to have a shop based at the majority of our HWRCs by the end of 2025.
"Our goal is to make reuse accessible and affordable for everyone in our local communities, while creating a positive impact on the environment. We believe that by promoting reuse and recycling across the county, we can all work together towards a greener future for Cornwall."
Cllr Carol Mould, portfolio holder for neighbourhoods at Cornwall Council, said: “We see so many items taken to our HWRCs that are perfectly useable, including things that are brand new and still in the box.
“This great initiative is all about preventing waste and giving pre-loved items a new lease of life.”
People can donate pre-loved items to the shops at all of Cornwall’s HWRCs, which will be open between 9am and 4pm daily.
