A PRODUCTION of A Streetcar Named Desire is being staged in St Austell later this month.

St Austell Players will be performing their re-telling of the Tennessee Williams story at St Austell Arts Centre on November 26-29.

A spokesperson said: “Made famous by the Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh film, this raw, sensual and tense play tells the story of delicate Blanche Dubois, who is visiting her sister Stella at her New Orleans home in 1947.

“The weather and the music are hot, the neighbourhood is mixed, rowdy and crowded, and Blanche must try to navigate this strange new world.

“Can she find her way amongst the violence and passion that Stella and her brutish husband Stanley live by?”

Director Dorothy Nelson said: “Many people know the classic Marlon Brando film, and the play has had multiple adaptations and productions.

“It has been a pleasure to develop our own re-telling of the story which is so full of passion, heat, tension and violence while also demonstrating the tender relationships between the characters as they try to navigate their situations.

“It has been a huge task to take on such complex characters, but our actors have done a tremendous job.”
