The plans also involve constructing perimeter enclosures, fabric covered pitch roof and lighting.

The planning application follows the aparthotel’s padel courts being damaged during Storm Darragh and Storm Bert.

A spokesperson for the applicant said: “The report details the sweeping damage caused by Storm Darragh over the weekend of December 7 and 8 at the padel facility at SeaSpace.

“This is further to the damaged caused on the site by Storm Bert previously.

“On first inspection, the damage is extensive on four of the courts.

“With many of the glass panels smashed and stanchions ripped out of their concrete ring-beam base that it is likely that four of the court structures will require complete replacement.

“In addition, we seek the advice of a structural engineer to advise on the condition of the concrete ring beams as to whether these are safe to be re-used.

“The floodlighting installation across all courts has been damaged along with its electrical installation and the hardware will require replacement and re-wiring.

“It is not only the padel courts that have been affected.

“The adjacent short wall on court one has crashed into the clubhouse located in between courts one and two.

“Therefore, it is assumed that remedial works will be required to make good any damage to the roof.

“The entrance gates to the site have been destroyed and damaged has been incurred by the amenity lighting bollard installation along the entrance footpath along with the path border.

“The astro turf that was laid in between the courts has been ripped up by the strong winds and ripped in places and covered with glass and debris from the courts.”
