Multiple fire crews tackled a blaze at a building in Penryn this morning (Monday, Februrary 3).

Emergency services were called out at 7.24am after a fire broke out at a flat above the Cog Bike Shop on Commercial Road.

Falmouth crews arrived at the scene before being joined by crews from Truro and Tolvaddon to help tackle the blaze.

No injuries have been reported.

Commerical Road and Church Road on the B3292 were closed in both directions, while the A39 southbound was also shut while the fire was tackled.

The closures, which remained in place until just after 11am, caused major disruption to motorists travelling in the area. The fire service also urged residents to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for the Cornwall Fire and Rescue said: “Critical Control received a 999 call at 07:24 informing them of a fire at a residential property on Commercial Road, Penryn.

“Two appliances from Falmouth Community Fire Station were immediately mobilised, along with a whole time officer for support.

“On arrival, crew on scene made pumps three and confirmed a large amount of smoke issuing from the roof of the flats.

“Shortly after this, they made pumps four and requested the attendance of the aerial ladder platform from Truro Community Fire Station.

“In total now, there are crew members from Falmouth, Truro and Tolvaddon along with two whole time officers.
