EMERGENCY services were scrambled following reports of a “hazardous” chemical leak at a Newquay leisure park in the early hours of Saturday.

An appliance from Newquay Fire Station and the police attended the incident at Trenance Leisure Park at 12.20am.

The fire service assessed the situation to determine whether there was a danger to the public or the environment.

It said there was "no risk to the wider public or environment", adding the incident was handed over to the company and maintenance team.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a 999 call from the Police alerting us of a spillage at Trenance Leisure Park, Newquay.

“One appliance from Newquay was mobilised to assess the situation and to see if there was a danger to the public or the environment.

“A hazardous materials and environmental protection advisor also provided tactical advice to the crews and the critical control centre.

“The incident handed over to the company and maintenance team.

“No further resources were required, and The Environment Agency were informed.

“There is no risk to the wider public or environment.”
