A man was found dead on a beach in St Ives yesterday morning (Thursday, January 23).

Police were called to Porthgwidden Beach just after 11am to reports of a concern of welfare. A coastguard helicopter was also dispatched to the location.

The man, who was in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

A spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were notified at around 11.05am on Thursday 23 July to reports of a concern of welfare of a man on Porthgwidden Beach, St Ives.

“Emergency services, including the HM Coastguard helicopter attended.

“The man, who was in his 50s, was pronounced deceased at the scene, and his next of kin are aware.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
