A LIONS group in Newquay has added two new members to its pride.

Newquay Towan Blystra Lions has welcomed husband and wife, Tony and Sioux, who live in the Porth area.

The couple first met up with members of the club when they visited last year’s Lion’s Newquay Beer Festival and saw, first hand, the friendship, fun and raising of funds for good causes the Lions are renowned for.

Sioux, a fitness instructor and nursery nurse, said: “I asked about how we could help the community and the Lions invited us along to one of their meetings. We were made to feel very welcome and, after getting involved in some of their events, we became Lions ourselves.”

Tony, who is the director of an estate agent company, added: “Having been inspired by attending the Beer Festival, I’m now delighted to be helping the club organise the 2025 event.

“It’s amazing how much is involved but I’ve now seen, first hand, how the club operate and make grants to really worthwhile local causes with the money they raise. I’m looking forward to playing my part.”

This year’s Newquay Beer Festival will be held between September 19 and 21.

Super saver tickets go on sale between Friday, April 4 and Monday, April 7.

A spokesperson for the Lions said: “If, like Tony and Sioux, you would like to learn more about how you can become part of the Lions, the largest service organisation in the world, why not ring an have an informal chat on 0345 833 4981.

“You will speak to a local Lion who can answer all your questions and explain about how the organisation operates and how it could suit you.

“There’s no ‘hard sell’ and you don’t even have to give your name if you don’t want to.”
