EMERGENCY services attended Fistral Beach after a surfer got into difficulty when they lost their surfboard in giant surf on Tuesday (February 18).

Both the Newquay RNLI Atlantic and D-class lifeboats along with Newquay Coastguard Search and Rescue Team attended the incident at about 5.15pm.

They were stood down when the surfer managed to get to shore safely themselves.

A spokesperson for Newquay Coastguard said: “We were tasked alongside both Newquay RNLI lifeboats in response to a 999 call regarding a surfer in difficulty after losing their board at North Fistral.

“Shortly after lifeboats and team members arrived on scene the individual was fortunately able to self-rescue.

“If you see someone in difficulty along the coast dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
