SPECSAVERS in Penzance is offering free earplugs to anyone affected by noise from a malfunctioning lighthouse at Land’s End.
Due to a faulty fog alarm, the Longships Lighthouse has been emitting a loud beep every 13 seconds for the past week, leading The National Coastwatch Institution Gwennap Head to advise “a set of earplugs might be a good investment”.
To claim free hearing protection, people just have to visit the Specsavers Penzance store on Market Jew Street and say “Longships” to a member of store staff.
Audiology director Amanda Edmunds also advised that those in the area who can’t hear the beep, could still benefit from a visit to the store.
She said: “To anyone driven to distraction by the Longships Lighthouses beeping, we’re pleased to offer you a free pair of hearing protection in our Penzance store. Just say the magic word. But if you or a loved one are struggling to hear the beeping in the area, it could be a sign of hearing loss and time to book a free hearing check.”
