Penzance Council is inviting members of the community to a Be A Councillor taster session for anyone thinking of standing in the forthcoming local elections in May.
The free event takes place on Monday, March 10 from 5pm to 7pm in the Alverne Room in St John’s Hall, Penzance.
Following a presentation by Penzance Council town clerk James Hardy at 5.45pm, and an opportunity to quiz councillors and staff from Penzance Council, attendees may stay and watch the scheduled full council meeting at 7pm.
All 20 seats across the four wards of Penzance parish will be contested at the elections on May 1: six seats in Penzance Promenade, six in Penzance East, five in Newlyn and Mousehole, and three in Heamoor and Gulval.
Penzance Council needs people from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect the communities they live in to put themselves forward to stand as councillors.
Being a councillor can be a rewarding experience, making a huge difference to the quality of life of local people and shaping the future of their community.
Applicants can be part of a political party or stand independently.; no prior experience or special qualifications are needed.
