Firefighters were called out to the Old County Hall in Truro after a blaze broke out at the derelict building on Sunday night (January 12).
Fire crews from Truro, Tolvaddon and Falmouth attended to the scene on Station Road shortly after 9pm. They extinguished the fire on the ground floor of the Grade II listed building using hose reel jets and safety jets.
A Cornwall Fire & Rescue spokesperson said: “Critical Control received a 999 call at 21.04pm informing them of smoke issuing from a disused building on Station Road in Truro.
“Two appliances were immediately mobilised from Truro and Tolvaddon, along with a flexi duty whole time officer for further support. On arrival, firefighters confirmed visible signs of smoke within the building and 'made pumps 4'.
“As a result, a further two appliances from Tolvaddon and Falmouth were mobilised, along with another flexi duty whole time officer. Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, used hose reel jets and safety jets to extinguish the fire which was located on the ground floor.”
The landmark building, which was purpose-built for Cornwall County Council in 1890, had continued to be used by the Cornwall Record Office until its relocation to Kresen Kernow, Redruth, in 2019.
