FEARS have been raised Newquay Royal British Legion (RBL) Branch will fold unless more committee members come forward.

Daz Keeler, the chairman of the Newquay RBL branch, has launched a recruitment campaign to enlist reinforcements to ensure the organisation can continue.

He hopes people interested in volunteering to be a committee member will attend the forthcoming Annual General Meeting, which will be held at the Oceanside Hotel in Headland Road on Wednesday, November 13, at 7pm.

Mr Keeler, who is also the Remembrance Day parade marshal, said: “The RBL is struggling for members on the committee and is struggling to survive.

“We need to keep the Newquay RBL branch going even if it’s to stage the Remembrance events held in Newquay each year.

“I think the branch is struggling because people’s lives are too busy to be a committee member.”

The Newquay RBL Club in Trevena Terrace closed down in September 2023. The club committee said that “bad publicity” and “bad mouthing” of the RBL Club had affected income over recent months and led to spiralling debt.

Mr Keeler stated the RBL Club’s demise had not impacted the Newquay RBL branch committee despite its struggles.
