Carn to Cove, Cornwall’s rural touring scheme, has announced its autumn 2024 season of music, theatre, dance, circus, poetry, and family fun in Cornwall’s wonderful and varied village halls and community spaces.
From September to December, 64 shows by 22 professional touring companies and artists will take place in 49 venues from Saltash to St Martins.
Unlike a traditional theatre venue, the village halls, churches, libraries, and pubs of Cornwall and Isles of Scilly create the stage for Carn to Cove. Working with hundreds of volunteers, they bring extraordinary performances to villages, towns, and rural communities. This unique approach makes high-quality arts accessible and affordable for rural audiences.
Programme Manager Francesca Duncan said: “Our mission is to bring world-class performances directly to local communities, eliminating barriers of cost and travel. We're proud to offer an programme that makes arts accessible to all.”
The autumn season presents a vibrant array of performances, with something to delight every taste. Here are just a few highlights from the diverse programme:
· The season begins with Jaclarabag, bringing heartfelt, eclectic folk songs and tunes from across the world to Portscatho, Lanteglos, Saltash, Redruth, Helston, Crackington Haven and Mylor Bridge. Seasoned theatre musicians and composers Jim Carey, Giles King and Claire Ingleheart and their impressive array of instruments invite you to an exciting world of plaintive airs, brass band mischief and Balkan delights.
· History comes alive in Samson & Delilah, a drama set during the Spanish Armada. This Collective Arts CIC production features a cast of 30, blending professional and community performers. The tour follows the Armada's route, with each venue adding its unique local story to performances in Newlyn, Praa Sands, and Carleen.
· Young audiences will be enchanted by Petals and Tales, a magical fusion of dance, music, and storytelling by Panta Rei Danseteater, a Norwegian company who are travelling from Oslo to Cornwall for an exclusive South West tour. Performed in the round, this show features a wondrous tree surrounded by hundreds of flower petals, bringing fairy tales to life in Calstock and at Redruth's Harbour Festival.
The full programme showcases a diverse range of performances to suit all tastes and ages. This is an opportunity to experience top-tier performances in your local community. For information on all the Carn to Cove shows coming this autumn and to book tickets, visit www.carntocove.co.uk
