With shows already starting to sell out, The Falmouth Cringe, now in its third year, promises to deliver on a jam-packed schedule with a range of diverse comedic styles and voices, designed to make sure there’s something for everyone.
Next week, the festival kicks off its biggest programme lineup to date, with 40 comedy performances that will take place from July 4-7 across seven venues in Falmouth.
Kiri Pritchard-McLean - popular highlight of last year’s festival - is coming back with the ‘best tour she’s ever written’ and there’s also stand up performances from the likes of Nabil Abdulrashid, Christopher Hall, Olga Koch, Chloe Petts, and Jordan Brooks (Edinburgh comedy award winner 2019).
Highlights of the festival include a film screening of Harry Hill's ‘The Last Caveman’ followed by a live Zoom Q+A with Harry; a live podcast recording of GhostHuns - the popular ghost story podcast from comedians Hannah Byczkowski (Winner of The Traitors, 2022) and Suzie Preece (Finalist, Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year) and a Cornish comedy showcase, ‘The Court of Kernow’ hosted by Ed Rowe, otherwise known as The Kernow King.
Families are also well catered for, with two completely free outdoor performances from local Cornish entertainers Magic Martin and Dangerous Dave on Sunday, July 7 at Kimberly Park, as well as an interactive, disabled led game show for all ages by the Blue Badge Bunch on Saturday, July 6.
The festival’s closing night headliner is none other than Jessica Fostekew. Jessica (regular co-host of The Guilty Feminist podcast and star and writer of BBC Radio 4’s Sturdy Girl Club) will bring her new show Mettle to Solskinn - The Church on July 7. Jess’ previous show Hench was nominated for Best Show at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards. Most recently her hugely-acclaimed feature film Scrapper won the Grand Jury prize at the Sundance festival.
Ciska Earle, Co-Director of the festival, said: “The Falmouth Cringe 2024 is our biggest festival to date and we’re very proud of what the festival is becoming. It’s great to be welcoming Kiri back alongside so many new faces.
“We’re thrilled to have Nabil Abdulrashid and Jess Fostekew on the line-up and very proud to be hosting so much incredible Cornish talent. Come down to Fives Cyderhouse on July 7 to catch as many of them in one place as we were able to get into one programme slot.
“We’ve been thrilled with the early take-up for tickets. Our local champion, Kev Mud, has already sold out in Underland. Tickets have also gone for Amy Mason who I’m really excited to see perform at The Chintz and other events are selling fast. We’re hoping to share a really joyful weekend of laughter with as many people as possible.’’
