CORNWALL is set to host a brand-new classic car event later this month in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.
Open to all types of classic cars, the Healeys Classic Car Rally, celebrates the legendary automotive legacy of Cornishman Donald Healey.
The rally sets off from Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm in Penhallow on Saturday, September 28, with classic car enthusiasts invited to join current members of the Healey family for a day of heritage, horsepower, and Cornish hospitality – with all profits from the event going to Prostate Cancer UK.
Donald Healey, pilot, Monte Carlo rally race winner, record breaker, founder of the Donald Healey Motor Company, and legend to motoring enthusiasts the world over was born on July 3, 1898, in Perranporth. He studied engineering while at Newquay College and opened his first garage at Perranporth in 1920.
This inaugural classic car rally reflects his close connections with the county; passing through his birthplace, driving along spectacular coastal roads where he honed his driving skills, and making a pit stop at Trebah Gardens, Donald’s former home for a traditional Cornish cream tea.
The rally finish line is back at Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm where participants can enjoy a tour of Donald’s third and fourth generation descendants’ multi-award-winning visitor centre and cyder press.
“We are thrilled to launch the first-ever Healeys Classic Car Rally in Cornwall and to help raise awareness of such a worthwhile charity,” said Healeys founder and chairman David Healey. “This event is not just a celebration of our family’s automotive heritage but also a way to bring together classic car enthusiasts from all over, to share in the beauty of Cornwall and the joy of classic motoring,” he added.
